Make it stand out

Sweet Basil

Production Method

Sweet Basil oil is extracted using steam distillation from the fresh, blossoming aerial parts of the basil plant. This meticulous process captures the aromatic compounds within the plant material. Additionally, a hydrolate, a milder form of the essential oil, can be obtained during the distillation process. For a more concentrated fragrance, an absolute can be derived from the hydrolate upon request. It's worth noting that an alternative extraction method involves solvent extraction of the same plant material, resulting in the creation of a concrete and absolute. This process produces not only the aromatic oil but also a valuable by-product in the form of wax, offering diverse uses in the fragrance and cosmetic industries.

Uses

Sweet Basil oil offers a wide range of applications across various industries. In perfumery, its sweet-spicy, slightly green, and fresh aroma, complemented by a subtle balsamic-woody undertone and lasting sweetness, makes it a classic choice for fragrances, particularly in "Origan" type perfumes, Chypres, and modern-aldehydic and "green" perfume compositions. Its versatility allows it to introduce interesting olfactory notes, blending harmoniously with other aromatic components like opopanax, bergamot, clary sage, and more.

In the realm of flavors, Sweet Basil oil plays a role in high-end culinary applications such as "Chartreuse" type liqueurs, premium seasoning blends, and meat sauces. It also contributes to natural flavors, particularly in berry-flavored products, enhancing the overall taste.

For aromatherapy, Sweet Basil oil stands out as a safer alternative to its close relative, Tropical Basil, which contains potentially toxic components. Sweet Basil oil is an anti-spasmodic, anti-infectious agent, with applications against infectious enterocolitis and other health concerns. It lacks known contraindications and is considered a valuable addition to aromatherapeutic practices, offering both safety and efficacy.
